Austin Peay State University Lady GovsJacksonville, FL ? Running in Heat 3, which produced the event?s top two qualifiers, Grey got off to a great start, sitting in second place at the 400-meter mark.

?She really went out well-59.1 (400 meters) is the fastest she has ever gone out,? APSU coach Doug Molnar. ?In fact, she was in third place and made move to get into second about the 400 meter mark. She was still in good shape at the 500 and 600 meters, but she ran out of gas, unfortunately, in the final 140 meters or so.

?She put a lot of pressure on the top runners, which was reflected in the top two qualifying times coming from that heat.?

Grey finished with a time of 2:12.64 and ended up 43rd among Thursday?s participants. The top three finishers from each of the six heats plus the next nine best qualifiers moved into Friday?s quarterfinals.

?Chantelle learned a lot today,? Molnar said. ?She went for the win, which is her mentality, but it might have hurt her.?

?I came a long way from where I was last year,? Grey said. ?I am going to be there next year.?

Navy awards Aerovel Flexrotor contract to develop marine surveillance tech

Navy awards Aerovel Flexrotor contract to develop marine surveillance tech

The high seas and UAVs go together like -- well, they go together really well. The Navy's cooking up 3D laser imaging technology for spotting pirates and the like, but it will need some aircraft for the task. Right on cue, a helicopter / airplane hybrid for maritime surveillance is inching toward reality. Aerovel's Flexrotor, an ultra-compact craft with a wing span of three meters (9.8 feet) and a weight of just 19.2 kg (42.3 lb), has already been demonstrated to switch between horizontal and vertical flight, but the next step is enhancing its propulsion system to improve its performance for longer distances and in windier conditions. Today the Office of Naval Research (ONR) awarded the company a contract for developing that tech. For now, you can check out a video of the Flexrotor's first test flight, which demoes the UAV transitioning from vertical and horizontal orientation and back again.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball Kicks Off Amid Protests

Seoul, South Korea, set list heavy on new material, but Gaga's biggest hits come out to play.

Lady Gaga kicked off her hotly awaited Born This Way Ball at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium on Friday (April 27) in front of 45,000 fans, and despite protests from Christian groups saying Mother Monster was "obscene" and could "taint" young people with her performance, the concert appears to have gone on without incident.

Intrepid Twitter fans are already showing off pictures and video of the BTW Ball's enormous Gothic castle backdrop and myriad costume changes, making it clear that Gaga has outdone even her own Monster Ball in terms of spectacle.

While we wait for reviews to trickle in from halfway around the world, one thing is certain: No minors were corrupted at the show. Earlier this month, the Korea Media Rating Board decided to elevate the age rating for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the concert. When the board notified Gaga's tour promotion company and a sponsor of the change in age restrictions, it did not offer a reason why the show — which at the time was still in rehearsals and has not been reviewed publicly — was considered unsuitable for children under 18.

The likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as the concert neared and protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group covered Seoul with posters accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances."

The superstar and her fans, however, were undeterred. Though she tweeted her hopes that the Korea Media Rating Board would reverse its decision (it didn't), she continued on as planned. Many fans reportedly arrived at the show wearing versions of Gaga's most well-known flamboyant costumes, and there have been no reports of disturbances at the concert.

Before the show, Gaga tweeted, "I can you hear you Korea. I'm shaking."

Gaga's performance was heavy on material from her Born this Way album, though her biggest hits, including "Bad Romance," Poker Face" and "Just Dance," were represented.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball set list:

» "Highway Unicorn"
» "Government Hooker"
» "Born This Way"
» "Bloody Mary"
» "Bad Romance"
» "Fashion of His Love"
» "The Queen"
» "Just Dance"
» "Love Game"
» "Telephone"
» "Just Dance"
» "Heavy Metal Lover"
» "Bad Kids"
» "Hair"
» "Yoü and I"
» "Electric Chapel"
» "Americano"
» "Poker Face"
» "Scheiße"
» "The Edge of Glory"
» "Marry the Night"

NZXT's Cryo E40 laptop cooler sends a pleasant breeze wherever you like

NZXT is pretty good when it comes to avoiding unnecessary flourishes and providing straight-up PC hardware. Its Cryo E40 laptop cooler is no different, forgoing HDD slots and magic elixirs in favor of two 80mm fans that clasp magnetically to the underside of its steel mesh. These can be plucked off and moved around to suit your lappie's particular hotspots -- so long as you're using a 15-incher or smaller. The E40 rises to 60mm above the surface of your desk, covers an area 420mm wide by 300mm deep, and is powered via a USB cable that can also be shifted to the left or right to suit your ports. The price of all this flexibility? That'd be $28, please, with availability from next month.

Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer: ?The New iPad Is On Fire?

peteroppenheimerIf you were one of the naysayers who thought that there wouldn't be a very strong consumer appetite for the newest twist on the already very popular iPad, it may be time to think again. Apple's top executives said today that just a few weeks after the new iPad's formal launch, the response to the company's latest iteration on the tablet has been incredibly strong -- and it's making an impact from a financial perspective. "We're just learning about the elasticity of demand and the $399 price point is doing well, but I have to tell you the new iPad is on fire and we're selling them as fast as we can make them," CFO Peter Oppenheimer said during the company's first quarter earnings call with investors, a sentiment that Tim Cook echoed verbatim later on in the call. This latest release, which saw three million devices sold in its first weekend alone, was Apple's fastest iPad rollout ever, he said.

Galaxy Nexus, Viper and Optimus Elite now available on Sprint

Sprint Android phones

Today sees the launch of three new smartphones on Sprint's network. First up is Google's current flagship device, the Galaxy Nexus. Sprint has the CDMA/LTE variant, which is very similar to the Verizon LTE version currently doing the rounds in the U.S. There's the same 720p HD SuperAMOLED display and 1.2GHz dual-core CPU that GNex owners have been enjoying since late 2011, and we're sure Sprint customers will be eager to get their hands on their very own version of the current Android flagship.

Next up is the LG Viper, an entry-level 4G LTE device for customers looking for a good all-round LTE smartphone. Inside you'll find a 1.2GHz dual-core processor along with NFC, Google Wallet and hotspot capability on top of a 4-inch WVGA NOVA display.

Finally, there's the Optimus Elite, which we got to play with just a few days ago at its launch event.  It's definitely an entry-level device, with a 3.5-inch HVGA display and 5MP camera. But if you're not looking for anything too fancy from your Android smartphone experience, you could definitely do a lot worse.

'Ender's Game' Producer Talks Movie's NASA Sound Stage

One of the movies we're most excited about in 2013 is "Ender's Game." The beloved sci-fi novel won us over since its release in 1985, and has been in discussions for a film adaptation ever since.
